Celebration Concert @ Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church

Lutherans love music and singing so it’s appropriate for Faith Lutheran Church in Ottawa to celebrate the recent rebuilding of the sanctuary with a concert. Along with major improvements in building safety, the changes have resulted in significantly improved acoustics in the sanctuary. We finally have a space suitable for musical performance, and the ability to pack in a reasonable sized audience safely! We are also celebrating the return of Pastor Martin Malina from sabbatical leave with a community BBQ following the concert. Come for the concert, or the BBQ or both!

All monies raised through concert ticket sales and freewill offering for the BBQ will be used to recover renovation costs through the capital building fund.

The concert will be a high energy mix of Celtic Folk music, songs and maybe a little step dancing too, presented by ANNA LUDLOW. Anna has been enchanting audiences all over Eastern Ontario since moving from Nova Scotia to Ontario a couple of years ago. She has shared the stage with the likes of The Beach Boys, Blue Rodeo, Irish Mythen, Charlie A’Court, Lennie Gallant, Matt Mays, Dave Gunning and Ron Hynes. Anna’s playing is strongly influenced by the Celtic-music haven of Cape Breton. In Nova Scotia Anna played at local pubs and parties, and in bands including Jug in Hand, KILT, Barnacle, and Banshee. She has been the principle fiddler for the critically acclaimed touring production DRUM!, and has been teaching fiddle privately for over 17 years. Recent performances at Ottawa’s BluesFest, Almonte Celtfest and Ontario Festival of Small Halls, not to mention numerous smaller events and house concerts has created a large fan following in the Ottawa area.

Anna puts on a high-energy show, fusing the style of the traditional Maritime Kitchen Party with a contemporary flare that will have you on your feet.

Anna will be accompanied by TYSON CHEN, pianist, accompanist, and piano teacher based in Ottawa, Ontario. Tyson performs an eclectic mix of musical styles including Celtic, popular, classical, and jazz. He studied classical and popular music in his hometown Ottawa, then lived and breathed Celtic music in the heart of Cape Breton where he became a popular piano accompanist among fiddlers. He has returned to Ottawa and is currently studying jazz and Celtic piano in Ottawa. His performances range from high-energy stage productions to intimate musical gatherings. He has played for international festivals, musical theatre, and cruise ships as well as square dances, ceilidhs, and many community events.

The concert will be opened with a performance by the combined choirs and musicians of Faith Lutheran Church and Julian of Norwich Anglican Church.

Following the concert at ~ 5pm a community BBQ will be held on the church grounds, with payment by freewill offering (cash/cheque) onsite. Burgers, hot dogs etc. for everyone!

Concert tickets are $15 for adults. Children 12 and under $10, kids are invited to sit on the floor in front of the stage (front row seats!). A convenience fee applies for online credit card purchases. Tickets are also available in person at Faith Lutheran Church on Sunday mornings beginning August 6, further ticket sales options will be announced as they become available. Bulk tickets (max. 20) may be purchased, printed or mobile tickets can be transferred to a friend easily.
