Advent-Christmas Special Events

Hello friends of Faith,

Here are some of the special events and worship opportunities for you to participate during the coming Advent and Christmas seasons at Faith:

  1. Book Club—You are welcome to gather with other readers to reflect on New York Times Bestselling The Book of Longings by Sue Monk Kidd (author of The Secret Life of Bees) on Tuesday, December 20 from 7-8:30pm online. Please contact Pastor Martin for the Zoom link. There are lots of copies available at your local Ottawa Public Library branch. Get reading! And then enjoy a lively conversation next month with others.
  2. Holden Evening Prayer—A joint in-person contemplative worship by Pastor Martin (Faith Lutheran Church) and Pastor Judith Kierschke (Martin Luther Church) on Tuesday November 29 from 5:00-6:30pm and Tuesday December 13 from 5:00-6:30pm. After each short, contemplative service, you are invited to enjoy a hot cup of soup before moving on to the rest of your evening. This social pause following the service allows you to renew friendships in the church and bless each other in this festive, holy season. Here is an opportunity to spend a little time for rekindling the relationships in the church that form the backbone of our community of faith. If you would like to donate a pot of soup for when we host (on November 29) please contact Pastor Martin or sign up on the “Cup of Soup” list in the narthex.
  3. “The story of Saint Nicholas”; an evening for children – an in-person event on Tuesday, December 6 from 5:00-6:30pm; parents are invited, too! We will sing together, re-tell the story of Saint Nicholas, colour and craft, and pray together in silence and using simple words. We also plan to eat a pizza supper together. Please confirm with Pastor Martin your attendance as this event is still tentative. If you are willing to help with this event, please let Pastor Martin know. Thank you!
  4. Musical Talents! For the in-person Christmas Eve (5pm) and Christmas Day (10am) worship services this year (both will be livestreamed), you are invited to offer your musical talents. Choose a song or instrumental piece of music that you perform, either in person or pre-recorded. There’s still lots of time to prepare and record your offering. If in person, we need to know soon; if recorded, let us know your thoughts. We will do our best to include your music on Christmas Eve and/or Christmas Day. If pre-recorded, please note that your submission will be subject to the tech team’s editorial decisions in order to make your recording fit as best as possible into the livestreamed service order. Thank you!
