Hello friends of Faith,
This book study is an exploration of a fictional work that touches on Lenten themes such as loss, death, relationship, God, church, and grace – themes especially pertinent this year in COVID times. The genre is a character-driven mystery.
The main characters comprise a Lutheran family in a rural town. The story is told from the perspective of a young boy named Frank, a son of the local Lutheran pastor. In a beautifully written story, Frank and his brother Jake come to terms with the reality of death.
Ordinary Grace: A Novel is written by William Krueger. His book received the Edgar Award in 2014, winner for best novel and is considered a Reader’s Guide “Book Club Favourites”. A section at the back of the book includes questions for discussion.
If you would like to read it and participate in the Lenten Book Study, please let me know so we can make arrangements for you to obtain a copy.
The book club will meet five times for one hour on Mondays in Lent, beginning Monday, February 22 at 7pm on Zoom.
For the first meeting, we will aim to have read the first six chapters (p.1-61).
I look forward to our conversations on these relevant themes for our journeys of faith.
Pastor Martin
